Jerusalem, Israel - Apr. 5, 2024  - On Thursday night, the annual 'Open House Jerusalem' opening event was held at the new National Library of Israel in Jerusalem.

After deep thought and consideration, the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage, the Municipality of Jerusalem, and the Jerusalem Development Authority decided to hold the 'Open House Jerusalem' on the first two weekends of April 2024.

At the opening event, Mayor Moshe Lion welcomed the Ambassadors and tourism professionals in Israel for a conference in attendance, mentioning though preceding with the event, we still remember the hostages and anxiously await their return. Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Jewish Heritage Meir Porush, was among the participants, and also leading Israeli architects.

The event allows the public to get to know special sites in the city at no cost, strengthening a sense of belonging and helping small businesses and hotels in the capital. Visitors are offered a rich program of rare visits and tours of many intriguing houses and buildings in Jerusalem, most of which have not been opened to the public.

Open House events are inspired by festivals held in major cities: London, New York, Barcelona,Melbourne, Rome, and Dublin, for example.

This year the festival includes hundreds of tours and houses in a variety of categories that connect the past, present, and future of Jerusalem. It will be possible to visit the new building of Bezalel and more. Tours delve into ancient traditions alongside contemporary culture and art, visiting significant points in the lives of cultural giants. Tours focusing on the architectural aspect of the city with a view towards the future and tours of the cornerstones of the capital.

Another initiative for the first time at the festival is the hosting of architects from the leading offices from Israel and the world, as part of a collaboration with Bezalel Academy of Art and Design Jerusalem, which recently returned to the city center, with the opening of the new campus named after Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel.

The photo essay includes images taken on a tour of the National Library of Israel offered in English to international tourism professionals who had not seen the new building. Images from the new Judaica exhibition in the rotating gallery space and the electronic stacks were highlights of the late-night tour.
