A gifted orator and scholar, Rabbi Wein left a lasting imprint on generations through thousands of recorded shiurim and lectures on Torah and Jewish history, first on cassette tapes and CDs, later reaching global audiences online.

Born in Chicago, he led Congregation Bais Torah and established Yeshiva Shaarei Torah in Monsey, New York, before settling in Jerusalem in 1997, where he served as mara d’asra of Beit Knesset Hanassi. Rabbi Wein also reshaped kosher supervision across North America during his leadership of the OU’s Kashrus Division, leaving a worldwide impact on Jewish communal life.

Personally connected to pre-Holocaust rabbinic leaders, Rabbi Wein bridged past and present. He often recalled meeting Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum, the Satmar Rebbe—though their hashkafos differed, he described him as one of the greatest minds and tzadikim of his era.

The levayah will take place Sunday at Beit Knesset Hanassi in Jerusalem, with kevurah on Har HaZeisim.
