Jerusalem, Israel – June 5, 2025 – After more than 600 days of anguish, Israel has recovered the bodies of Judy and Gadi Haggai, z'l, H'yd, the beloved couple from Kibbutz Nir Oz, murdered and abducted by Hamas on October 7.

The recovery was carried out in a joint IDF and Shin Bet operation, made possible by intelligence from a captured terrorist. The couple’s deaths were confirmed in December 2023, but their bodies remained in Gaza until now.

The kibbutz, families, and national leaders expressed both sorrow and gratitude. “They went for a walk on that Black Sabbath morning and never returned,” Nir Oz said in a statement. The families thanked Israeli forces, the U.S. government, and the FBI for their roles in bringing their loved ones home for burial.

Judy, a teacher and peace advocate, and Gadi, a musician and IDF veteran, leave behind four children and seven grandchildren. Both were American citizens; Judy also held Canadian citizenship.

Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed:

“We will not rest, nor will we be silent, until all our hostages — living and deceased — are returned home.”
