Jerusalem, Israel - Jan. 23, 2025  -  On October 7, 2023, Erez Crossing on the border of Gaza and Israel was overrun by Hamas terrorists. After breaking through the barrier fence, wave after wave of heavily armed terrorists invaded Israel killing anyone in their way.

Roey Weiser, z'l, Hy"d, fell defending with his Golani soldiers at the Erez Army Base, as their ammunition ran out. Roey was one of the first of the 841 IDF soldiers to fall in the Iron Swords War which began on Shabbat, Simchat Torah morning.

For Yeshiva Week, January 19 - 23, 2025, with many English-speaking Americans arriving in Israel, the Gevura Forum hosted daily sessions with immediate family members speaking about their fallen heroes.

The Gevura Forum represents around 300 bereaved families of soldiers who fell in this war. They aim to realize the goals of the war - the defeat of Hamas, the release of the hostages, and restore security in the south and north.

The Forum week of lectures in English began on Sunday morning with Talia Haber speaking about her husband Zechariah Haber, z'l, Hy"d. The Segal/Haber families have strong ties in the Silver Spring, MD community before aliyah. Zechariah was not only learned in Torah but was nearing completion for his PhD. He was a brilliant scholar and a father to three young children. Talia showed some of his work and returned on Tuesday to speak again in the place of her mother-in-law Miriam Haber.

Sunday afternoon parents Varda (also with Silver Spring connections) and Eitan Morell lovingly remembered their son Maoz Hy"d.

Also speaking during the week, were Jen Airley mother of Binyamin, z'l, Hy"d; Dina Guedalia mother of Yosef, z'l, Hy"d, Sara Zimbalist mother of Eliyahu Moshe, z'l, Hy"d; Sharon and Tzvi Loewenstern parents of Elisha, z'l, Hy"d; and Lisa Weinsoff Zenltman mother of Ari, z'l, Hy"d.

At the concluding session on Thursday evening were Roey's parents Naomi and Yami Weiser. Yami is the son of Ruth and former TA Baltimore graduate Andy Weiser.

The Gevura Tent is located at Agranat Square in Yerushalayim, across from Cinema City. Talks by family members have been regularly hosted in the tent - families want to remember. This week the English sessions were attended by students, visitors, volunteers, and supportive family and friends.

May all their memories be for a blessing.
