Thousands visited the Western Wall Plaza during Chanukah amidst the 'Iron Swords' war, offering prayers for Israel's peace, redemption, the safety of IDF soldiers, the return of hostages, and the recovery of the injured.

Jerusalem, Israel - Jan 1, 2025 - The central Chanukah candle-lighting ceremonies, attended by hostage families, bereaved families, IDF soldiers, wounded veterans, and many others from Israel and abroad, took place throughout the holiday against the backdrop of the 'Iron Swords' war.

Tonight's eighth Chanukah candle-lighting ceremony was held in the presence of: Israel’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Kalman Bar, the rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Minister for Social Equality and Advancement of Women, May Golan, Director-General of the Chief Rabbinate, Rabbi Yehuda Cohen, Fire and Rescue Commissioner, Eyal Caspi, Chief Rabbi of Fire and Rescue, Deputy Commissioner Rabbi Haim Perel, Director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, soldiers of the Maler Battalion 9206, led by Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Gil Amiran, who fought in Gaza and Lebanon during the 'Iron Swords' war, along with bereaved families of fallen battalion members, accompanied by Rabbi David Druck and Israel Cohen of the Kisufim organization, fire-fighters and rescue personnel, commanders, families, and the general public.

Representatives of hostage families also participated tonight, including:

Baruch and Varda Ben Baruch, whose grandson, the abducted soldier Idan Alexander, remains held captive by Hamas.

Yelena Tropanov, mother of Sasha, who is in Hamas captivity, and his partner, Sapir Cohen, recently released from captivity.

Albert Arayev, father of Karina, an observer soldier held hostage in Gaza.

Yizhar Lifshitz, whose father, Oded, was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz during Simchat Torah on October 7th and is still held captive.

The family of Ohad Yahalomi, who was abducted from Nir Oz.

A special prayer was led by Israel’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Kalman Bar, and Rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, marking "Zot Chanukah," a day known for its spiritual significance in prayer. The prayer focused on the redemption and unity of Israel, the safety of IDF soldiers and security forces, the swift return of the hostages, and the recovery of the wounded.

Thousands are expected to continue visiting the Western Wall Plaza tonight and tomorrow on Zot Chanukah, offering prayers for the salvation of the people of Israel.
