Baltimore, MD – Dec. 23, 2024 – A minivan crashed into the Greenspring Sephardic Synagogue at the intersection of Greenspring Avenue and Smith Avenue on Sunday evening, prompting a significant emergency response.

The incident occurred around 6:09 PM, with first responders from Hatzalah, the Baltimore County Police, Baltimore County Fire Department, and the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company arriving quickly at the scene. Authorities found the minivan had traveled through the front of the shul. Hatzalah transported the driver to a local hospital, where their injuries were reported to be minor and not critical

Emergency crews conducted a thorough search of the building to ensure there were no additional victims and assessed the structural damage.

Prior to releasing the scene Baltimore County Battalion Chief Bowen condemned the building pending further inspection by a structural engineer. In the meantime, Sifrei Torah and other sefarim, etc., were removed to ensure their protection.

Authorities have confirmed the incident was not terror-related but rather an unfortunate accident. Utility lines were secured, and the area remains under review as police investigate the circumstances leading to the crash.
