Towson, MD – Dec. 11, 2024 - The Baltimore County Council announced Wednesday the names of candidates that have advanced in the selection process for the anticipated vacancy in the office of Baltimore County Executive.
As a result of the Dec. 3, 2024 letter from County Executive John A. Olszewski, Jr. to the County Council submitting his resignation as County Executive effective Jan. 3, 2025 at 9 a.m., the County Council is tasked with electing the next County Executive to serve the remainder of the current term in accordance with the Baltimore County Charter.
Following the posting of a County Executive announcement on the County Council’s website last month, the Council received 12 applications. Over the last several weeks, the Council members have been reviewing the application submissions. In addition, Tuesday night, the Council held a public hearing in the Council chambers and via video teleconference. At the hearing, 75 individuals addressed the Council on the qualities they believe are important for the next County Executive.
After careful review of the candidate submissions, and after receiving input and feedback from County residents, the Council has selected the following individuals to advance forward in the County Executive selection process:
Jim Brochin
Yara A. Cheikh
Katherine A. Klausmeier
George G. Perdikakis, Sr.
Barry F. Williams
As part of the public legislative session in the County Council chambers and via video teleconference on Dec. 16, 2024 at 6 p.m., the Council has invited the five candidates for interviews. Beginning at approximately 7 p.m., each candidate will be given the opportunity to address the Council and the public, outlining their experience and qualifications and their vision for Baltimore County during the next two years as County Executive. The candidates will also be given topics and related questions the Council believes are important for the next Executive to discuss.
“My colleagues and I are pleased to announce the five candidates who have advanced in the selection process, and we look forward to hearing from each candidate on Monday night. While we truly recognize and appreciate the time and effort of all the candidates throughout this process, the five candidates who are moving forward stand out in their experience and accomplishments, and represent the consensus of the Council at this stage,” County Council Chairman Izzy Patoka said. “I also want to thank County residents who took the time to address us at the public hearing Tuesday night, especially during this busy time of the year. We genuinely appreciate their input."
