Baltimore, MD - Sept. 18, 2024  - The Justice Department has filed a civil claim in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland against Singaporean corporations Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited.

This follows months after the Dali cargo ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, causing it to collapse and the tragic deaths of six people in Baltimore.

The suit seeks over $100 million in costs incurred by the U.S. for recovery efforts, including clearing the wreckage that obstructed the Port of Baltimore. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland emphasized the importance of holding the responsible parties accountable, stating that taxpayers should not bear the financial burden.

Recovery operations involved multiple agencies, removing around 50,000 tons of debris and reestablishing navigable channels by June 10. Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General Benjamin C.
