Baltimore, MD - Jan. 13, 2026 - After a long period of closed waitlisting, the Baltimore City Housing Authority will once again be accepting applications for Section 8 housing. The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program's 2026 Project-Based Voucher (PBV), commonly known as “Section 8 Housing,” will open for applications from 9:00 AM on January 14, 2026, through 11:59 PM on January 23, 2026.
The PBV program provides federally funded rental assistance to help eligible families, elderly households, and non-elderly individuals with disabilities afford safe, decent housing in the private market. PBVs are attached to specific housing units and cannot be used at other locations. Because demand has exceeded the number of vouchers available, applications had been closed to new applicants. During this window, a limited number of applicants will be chosen and added to waiting lists, from which vouchers will be issued as openings arise.
According to information provided by Baltimore City, 5,000 applicants will be randomly selected by lottery and will be placed on the Waiting List to receive vouchers. Additionally, 2,000 applicants will be selected for the PBV Senior Waitlist, and 2,000 applicants will be selected for the PBV Non-Elderly Disabled (NED) Waitlist. Applicants will be notified by email whether they were selected.
