Baltimore, MD - Dec. 11, 2025 - Two fast-moving winter weather systems known as clippers will move through Maryland this weekend. Combined, the systems could potentially bring up to four inches of snow to some parts of the state, according to the latest forecasts.
The first clipper is expected to pass over the Baltimore region Friday afternoon into the evening hours and could impact the after-work commute, The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang said in their latest forecast.
Lack of moisture to fuel the storm could limit overall snow potential, according to the National Weather Service; however, if the system strengthens, up to an inch of snow is possible for the Beltway area.
"We’d venture there’s a 10 to 20 percent chance of an inch of snow from this system, and about a 40 percent chance of a dusting," the Capital Weather Gang wrote. "Odds of at least a dusting increase some to the south and southwest of D.C."The second and larger system will sweep across the region Saturday into Sunday.
This part of the storm will try to strengthen as it reaches the Atlantic coast Saturday night, where the air may be cold enough for snow or a wintry mix of snow, sleet and rain, AccuWeather wrote in its latest forecast.
"Because the coldest air may be delayed a bit near the Atlantic coast, it is not quite a sure bet for all snow along the I-95 corridor of the Northeast this weekend," AccuWeather Senior Storm Warning Meteorologist Eddie Walker said.
The exact timing of the second system remains uncertain, but some models suggest it could begin about midnight and end about sunrise Sunday, the Capital Weather Gang wrote.
"This system may have a bit more juice than Friday’s, with some models showing the possibility of 2 to 4 inches around D.C.," forecasters said. "Others suggest the heaviest snow will occur to the north and northeast, with little in the D.C. area."
