New York, NY – Nov. 26, 2025 – (Arutz-7) Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani issued a stronger statement following backlash over his initial response to a protest outside Park East Synagogue, where demonstrators shouted “death to the IDF” and “globalize the intifada.”
Mamdani’s first comment had criticized the synagogue for hosting a Nefesh B’Nefesh event, suggesting it violated international law — a claim that drew sharp criticism from Jewish leaders.
In his updated statement, Mamdani condemned the protesters’ language as “unacceptable, full stop,” and emphasized protecting Jewish institutions amid rising antisemitism. His office confirmed he spoke with the synagogue’s rabbi and his son.
The controversy adds to concerns over Mamdani’s record of anti-Israel rhetoric, including his vow to arrest Prime Minister Netanyahu if he visits New York and his refusal to denounce “globalize the intifada.”
NYPD data released before the election showed Jews were the victims in 62% of all hate crimes last month in New York City.
