Baltimore, MD – July 3, 2025 – As millions of Americans pack their bags and hit the road for the Independence Day weekend, there’s some unexpected good news waiting at the pump: gas prices are down — way down.
According to CNBC, "gas is the cheapest it’s ever been." When adjusted for inflation, current fuel prices are among the lowest in the last two decades, giving drivers some long-overdue relief. Add rising incomes into the mix, and Americans are now spending far less of their paychecks on energy than they have in years.
This trend is being felt from coast to coast:
Tupelo, MS: “If you’re driving, you could be in for a pleasant surprise at the pump.”
New York, NY: “It looks like gas prices are about to get cheaper.”
Toledo, OH: “Summer gas prices are at a surprising four-year low.”
Columbia, SC: “Gas prices are currently the lowest that they’ve been since 2021.”
Jacksonville, FL: “Some good news for gas prices — they continue to fall ahead of the 4th of July holiday.”
Macon, GA: “Gas prices in our area are down. They’re the lowest we’ve seen at this time since 2021.”
Phoenix, AZ (Arizona Republic): Despite global tensions, especially in the Middle East, gas prices in Arizona have remained steady or declined, bucking the usual trend during times of conflict.
Even GasBuddy, a go-to source for gas price tracking, predicts the lowest national July 4th prices since 2021, possibly even since 2020.
CNN reports: “They’re pretty low — and they’re trending lower … On an inflation-adjusted basis, gasoline is swallowing up a smaller and smaller chunk of paychecks.”
ABC News noted the national average for regular unleaded now sits at $3.18 per gallon, compared to $3.49 this time last year — a significant drop.
The Wall Street Journal echoed this sentiment: “The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline, $3.21, is about 23 cents cheaper than this time last year. Reduced prices would be a boon for consumers during the warmer months when Americans drive more.”
NBC News pointed out the real impact on wallets: “That’s six or seven bucks extra when you fill up. That’s real money.”
Even Fox Business couldn’t ignore the trend: “Summer gas prices hit lowest level in 4 years despite Middle East tensions.”
