College Park, MD – April 16, 2025 – (247Sports) As the University of Maryland searches for its next athletic director, familiar names are circulating—but one unexpected contender may be gaining traction behind the scenes.
According to sources cited by Inside Maryland Sports (IMS), Baltimore Jewish community member Adam Neuman has emerged as a sleeper candidate for the role. Neuman, currently serving as chief of staff for the Baltimore Ravens, is a lifelong Maryland Terrapins fan (despite graduating from Penn). His résumé includes high-level experience as the Big Ten’s Chief of Staff, Strategy and Operations, and Deputy General Counsel.
Crucially, Neuman maintains a close relationship with Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and his family has deep ties to the state—his grandfather, Jock Freedman, was the longest-working employee in Maryland history as well as a former chairman of the board of Suburban Orthodox.
While big names are in the mix, Neuman’s blend of executive experience, regional ties, and political connections may position him as a serious contender as the university looks to shape the future of its athletic program.
