Pikesville, MD – Feb. 10, 2025 (BJL) – A father and his child were rescued from an icy pond at Druid Ridge Cemetery after a terrifying accident this afternoon.
The father had taken his two children to the duck pond when one of the children unexpectedly ran onto the ice and fell through. Acting quickly, he set his other child down on the shore and rushed to help. In the process, he too fell into the freezing water while trying to pull his child to safety.
Emergency services were immediately called, and units from the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company (PVFC) and Pikesville Paid, Co. 2 responded swiftly. Firefighters deployed a ladder tower, extending it over the ice to reach the stranded father and child. Using the ladder’s rescue basket, they successfully lifted both individuals to safety.
