Baltimore, MD - Jan. 28, 2025:
Background: In a recent shocking decision, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for key Israeli leaders based on false charges of “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” in Israel’s post October 7th war against Hamas. Israel is not a member state of the ICC, and as a nation with an independent judicial system, according to the ICC’s own “principle of complementarity” Israel should be immune from ICC prosecution.
The ICC decision therefore represents a politically motivated and antisemitic attack on the Jewish State.
The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act is a bill in the U.S. Senate (having already passed the U.S. House) that declares that the ICC’s actions against Israel are illegitimate and baseless. The bill places sanctions on any people aiding the ICC in arresting, detaining, and prosecuting Americans and its allies, including Israel, who are not ICC members.
The U.S. Senate is set to consider the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act legislation as early as today (1/28) or tomorrow (1/29).
This vote will be a critical opportunity for Senator Angela Alsobrooks, Maryland’s brand new senator (who replaced Senator Ben Cardin), to demonstrate her stance on this issue.
It is yet another opportunity for Senator Chris Van Hollen (the now- senior Maryland senator) to change course from his various anti-Israel stances of the past year and a half.
