President-elect Donald Trump said Mexico has agreed to stop the flow of migrants north into the U.S.

In a post Wednesday evening on Truth Social, Mr. Trump said he had just spoken with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and had “a wonderful conversation.”

“She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border. We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!” he wrote.

In a later post, he said the Mexican government “will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately.”

He then broke into all capital letters to crow that “this will go a long way toward stopping the illegal invasion of the USA. Thank you!!!”

The posts came days after Mr. Trump threatened 25% tariffs on Mexican goods if America’s southern neighbor did not stop the flow of drugs and illegal immigrants.

Ms. Sheinbaum responded earlier Wednesday by saying her country would impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports.

But she later confirmed having an “excellent” conversation with Mr. Trump, writing on X that she and Mr. Trump discussed “strengthening collaboration on security issues.”
