Baltimore, MD - Nov. 25, 2024 - The week of Thanksgiving is one of the deadliest on U.S. highways, so Maryland officials want road crews to stay out of the way of travelers as much as possible.

The State Highway Administration is going to suspend non-emergency roadwork from Wednesday through Monday.
Charlie Gischlar of Maryland SHA said that “for every minute that a lane on a major interstate is closed, it takes four minutes to recover.”
Gischlar said to expect peak congestion on Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. He suggests being on the road before or after those hours.
As far as coming home from travel plans, Gischlar said there should be heavy traffic on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 3-6 p.m.
SHA wants you to know that if you see an incident on the roadway and see flashing lights, move over. If you can’t safely move over, slow down and give those first responders room to work so they can save someone else.
