Baltimore, MD - Sept. 18, 2024 - In his bid to replace retiring Sen. Ben Cardin, former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan spoke to 150 supporters in Mount Washington on Wednesday night, emphasizing his message that he wants to bring independence rather than partisanship to the Senate. The event, organized by Democratic former State Senator Bobby Zirkin, started with the candidate shaking hands and meeting the attendees.
Afterwards, Zirkin spoke briefly and introduced Hogan. Zirkin said that in his 21 years in the legislature, he worked with four governors and found none as committed to getting things done as Hogan. He praised the former Republican governor for working with Democrats to implement policies that benefited t
he entire state, lauding him for his "independent bipartisan leadership."
Hogan touted his own record as governor and noted that he was the only Republican governor re-elected in Maryland in over 200 years. He expressed hope for winning the Senate race, calling it "lightning striking a third time." Like Zirkin, Hogan mentioned that this campaign was happening in the aftermath of the brutal Hamas terror attacks last October. He recalled that a week after the attacks, he rejected two Harvard fellowships after witnessing the university's failure to stand up for its Jewish students amidst protests shouting "death to Israel" and "death to America."
Regarding his current race against Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, Hogan noted that his opponent accused him of implementing the MAGA agenda, but he added that he had stood up against the previous president, the current president, and would stand up to the future president to do what's right for Maryland.
