Brazilian Federal Police have launched an operation to prevent terrorist attacks which are being planned against Jewish communities in Brazil.
The announcement stated that police are attempting to dismantle organizations planning attacks and "recruiting Brazilians to carry out extreme acts in the country."
Two temporary arrest warrants have been issued, and raids have been conducted at 11 locations across Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and the federal capital of Brasília. One suspect was arrested at Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport right after he landed from Lebanon.
The targets of the terrorist plot included several synagogues, according to local reports.
The suspects are reportedly linked to Hezbollah, the Iranian proxy terrorist organization which has a large footprint in Latin America and has been linked to previous terrorist attacks against Jewish targets in South America such as the AIMA bombings of 1993 in which 85 people were murdered.
