The overtime probe surrounding a school police officer is raising new questions about potential cases of overtime abuse in Baltimore.

Baltimore's Police Department routinely pays more than $40 million in overtime each year.

Two years ago, an inspector general's report found that one police employee had been paid $150,000 in overtime after he'd been stripped of his powers to police.

At the time, City Councilwoman Odette Ramos encouraged the city's top brass to be more 'proactive' when it comes to monitoring potential abuse.

"Right now, the city just doesn't know the extent of the problem. The last time they did an audit of this was in 2019," said David Williams, President of Taxpayers Protection Alliance.

"The first step is for the mayor and council to demand answers. If you don't know where the problem is you can't solve it," said WIlliams.
