It’s among 140 bills signed into law by Governor Larry Hogan this week: legislation providing relief for drivers who have outstanding cashless tolls in Maryland.

Under Senate Bill 59, drivers have until November 30th to pay outstanding video tolls, without facing civil penalties, in accordance with the Maryland Transportation Authority's customer assistance plan.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) must also reimburse drivers who already paid civil penalties in error.

MDTA has until October 1st to notify drivers who paid fines on these late tolls bills.

In February 2022, the Maryland Transportation Authority Board first implemented a grace period for civil penalties on overdue tolls.

MDTA halted billing for cashless tolls for several months during the COVID-19 pandemic.

FOX45 News continues to receive calls and messages from drivers who say they are surprised to open months-delayed bills in the mail.

The legislation does not apply to drivers who use an EZPass transponder to pay for tolls on Maryland’s roads and bridges.
