Question:  What do 3 psychologists, 2 psychiatrists and 3 counselors have in common?

Answer:     They all will be presenting at the SHEMESH Spring Symposium, May 22, from 8:45 a.m. until  1:00 p.m.

In fact, if you’ve ever wondered how to help an anxious child or you’ve searched for ways to help that perfectionistic teen; if you’re looking for ways to lower the anxiety caused by tests and homework or want to learn when and how much to push the child with social anxiety – then join us on Sunday, May 22, at the Park Heights JCC Community Room and meet the experts who will give you practical tips, sound direction and the comforting knowledge that you are not alone.

When a child is anxious, family, friends and teachers are affected by that anxiety.  Dr. Dawn Huebner, the Symposium Keynote Speaker, is the author of What to Do When You Worry Too Much: A Kid’s Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and other What to Do Guides for Kids.  She will present the broad picture of anxiety and how to deal with it, while the other speakers will lead sessions for parents, teachers, early childhood teachers and mental health professionals.   Our speakers include Dr. Fran Appler, Dr. Gerald Nestadt, Mrs. Deborah Rapoport, Dr. Michael Labellarte. Dr. Carol Watkins, Ms. Natalie Beglau-Pueyo, Dr. Kristi Phillips and Dr. Tana Hope.  They will be addressing the topics of test anxiety, OCD, social anxiety, medication and being part of a team to help the child with anxiety.

SHEMESH is pleased to offer this Symposium to parents and educators as part of our Professional Development program and our commitment to helping parents deal with their children’s learning issues.  In addition to the school services provided by SHEMESH, including reading readiness, language development, executive function coaching, and social skills training, we are available to offer guidance, consultation and support to parents, teachers and administrators.
