Baltimore, MD - Apr. 28, 2026 - TA recently held an asifa entitled “Parenting in the World of AI.” Rav Aharon Lopiansky, shlita, Rosh HaYeshiva of the Yeshiva of Greater Washington, addressed a packed room of parents and faculty. Following his presentation, Rav Lopiansky answered both pre-submitted and live questions from the audience. Afterward, Rav Lopiansky met with TA Rebbeim, continuing the conversation and exploring the challenges and opportunities this presents within our classrooms.

The Rosh Yeshiva focused on how certain habits, while appearing benign or even helpful, can have detrimental long-term ramifications. He explained that to become a Ben Torah, a person must be an amel baTorah. True growth comes from working and thinking - developing the ability to express one’s inner self clearly and to refine one’s middos through a deliberate process involving both emotions and intellect.

With that in mind, using AI to provide answers or even to “chat” can short-circuit this essential process. While AI can be a valuable tool, it must not replace the effort necessary to become a true adam. Rather, it should enhance what we are doing, not replace “me.” Rav Lopiansky urged the participants to model for our children a careful and thoughtful approach to AI. Our minds are no different than any other muscle—if not used properly, they weaken and lose their abilities.

Rav Lopiansky concluded with a powerful message: AI can help us recognize the greatness within ourselves. Nothing can replace our authentic selves - our thinking, our expression, and our middos tovos.
