Jerusalem, Israel - March 16, 2025 - President Isaac Herzog hosted a meal to break the Ramadan fast (Iftar) at the Beit Hanasi on Sunday, 16 Adar, March 16, attended by leaders and public figures from Arab society in Israel. The custom of the Israeli President began with Moshe Katsav, who had many friends in the Arab Israeli community. Israel Police and Israel Defense Force officers were represented.

The President and his wife, Michal, came out to greet the guests before dinner.

After the elegant and elaborate dinner was served in the main diplomatic reception room, after sunset to break the fast, he began, "Michal and I are happy and excited to host you today at the traditional Iftar dinner in the President's Residence. This is one of the most important and dearest events to my heart. My house is the house of all of you. Welcome and welcome...We sit and dine together and renew the covenant of partnership between us, and we also ask ourselves: how could we, and how can we, be better – united together?"

Besides the Iron Swords War, the past two years have seen the lives of hundreds of Israeli men and women - victims of the rising crime on the Arab street.

The President went on to mention several in his remarks: "Dr. Abdullah Awad from Mazraa managed to complete his internship, after many years of medical studies, and began working in his favorite field. He was supposed to celebrate Ramadan this year with his wife Samah, in the new house they built together, when criminals entered the health insurance fund where he worked and murdered him in cold blood in front of his patients. Jawad Yassin, 17, from Tamra, will also not celebrate Ramadan with his family. Jawad, an excellent student, quiet and beloved by everyone, managed to visit Tel Aviv University and tell his father, with sparkling eyes, that he planned to study there. To this day, it is unclear what led to Jawad's death by gunshot, in his car, and the shattering of the dreams of the entire family.

"Ziad Abu Mokh, 42, the principal of a revered school in Baqa Al-Gharbia, will not lead his thousand students this Ramadan and will not celebrate with his family and three children. He was murdered in an explosion of an explosive device attached to his car – by criminals, murderers, criminals. The three children of Ruya Shaaban, 24, from Lod, will also not be able to celebrate this Ramadan with their mother. She joins the horrifying, outrageous, and alarming statistics of the murder of women in Israel in general – and in Arab society in particular."

The President then added, "It requires us to place the fight against organized crime as a top national goal. To fight illegal weapons, the rising violence, and criminal organizations in Arab society. And let it be clear, as we have also said: the responsibility for the fight against crime and the rule of law lies with the State of Israel and all its authorities and branches."

He concluded with, "May we be able to continue to deepen the Israeli partnership alliance. May we be able to emphasize, in the face of the voices of hatred and extremism, that there is no hatred between the sons of Abraham. May this Ramadan, the month of brotherhood, charity, and kindness, herald the deepening of partnership between the moderate forces in the region, the speedy return of all the kidnapped people home, and the end of the bloodshed – in our country and the entire Middle East. I dream and will always dream of the moment when peace will come, and we must bring it. Dear guests, thank you very much for honoring us here tonight. All the best, and have a blessed Ramadan Kareem."

After the speeches and formal photos, a dessert buffet was set for the guests on the outside plaza
