The House of Representatives adopted a resolution to honor the "life and legacy" of late conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Friday, just over a week after he was shot and killed during a college campus speaking event in Utah. The measure got bipartisan support in a 310 to 58 vote, with both Democrats and Republicans having quickly risen to condemn political violence in the wake of Kirk's assassination. The vote divided Democrats, however, with 95 lawmakers voting to adopt the resolution, 58 voting against it, and 22 not voting at all.Thirty-eight Democrats also voted "present" on the resolution as well. The top three House Democrats – Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar, D-Calif. – all vote...
You are standing today, ื›ื•ืœื›ื — all of you, before your G-d — your heads of your tribes, and your elders, and your officers, — ื›ืœ ืื™ืฉ ื™ืฉืจืืœ all the men of in Israel. On this last day of Moshe's life, he gathered every man, woman and child, initiating them into the covenant of G-d. The verse seems redundant. It begins with Moshe addressing ื›ื•ืœื›ื — 'all of you', everyone, but then goes on to enumerate several prominent groups, and closing by reiterating that he is speaking to ื›ืœ ืื™ืฉ ื™ืฉืจืืœ — every member of our nation. The Midrash poses this question, answering it by explaining Moshe's intended message. "Although I have enumerated your officers, judges, and elders, know that all of you — ื›ืœ ืื™ืฉ ื™ืฉ...

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 19, 2025  - Trump administration officials are expressing concerns about the cost of the Key Bridge rebuild and what they call "unconstitutional DEI practices." In a letter that U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy sent to Maryland Governor Wes Moore on Friday, he raised concerns about the budget and timeline of the project. "DEI contracting practices and ballooning project costs are already threatening to delay this critical project," said Duffy in a statement release with the letter. "We will leverage our oversight authorities to ensure this vital bridge is rebuilt the right way." He specifies in the letter, "I am particularly interested in how the State of Maryland plans to achieve key delivery metrics for the FSK Bridge replacement project, includin...

I got some mussar the other day, which is not a bad thing, especially at this time of year. A woman I bumped into the other day chided me, “You stopped writing!” I was taken aback. I knew she meant it as a compliment; however, I did not realize how much my words meant to her. I reassured her I’d get back on track. It has been a busy and very fun summer, Baruch Hashem,  with some writing here and there (and rejections!), a very busy back to school season, and of course the start of another holiday one as well. There really hasn’t been much time to write, so Mrs. X, this one’s for you! This past summer, I had the privilege of travelling to Budapest and Keresztir with a group of young women in shidduchim.  It was a very special trip for many reasons,...

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 18, 2025  - As Rosh Hashanah approaches, many of us try to think of various kabbalos (resolutions) to make for the coming year. We are looking for a zechus which will stand us in good stead as we face Hashem during the Yamim Noraim. A common question that troubles many of us is, “Didn’t I go through this same process last year?” Perhaps we have even made the same kabbalos year after year, and nothing has really changed. We look around at most of the people around us, and we don’t notice too many changes in them either. Many people feel frustrated with themselves and exclaim, “Why can’t I get my act together?” For some, this can be a depressing time of year when we think how terrible we are and how we can’t seem to...

Two IDF soldiers were killed in a shooting attack on Thursday afternoon at the Allenby Crossing between Israel and Jordan. The security forces neutralized the terrorist at the scene. An initial investigation found that the terrorist reached the border crossing from the Jordanian side, driving a truck that was meant to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. It would appear the terrorist began to stab the two Israeli citizens after his gun jammed. After the terrorist entered the Israeli side of the crossing, near the cargo terminal, he began carrying out the attack. He opened fire on people in the area even before his truck reached the checkpoint. The terrorist exited the truck, first shooting at the people there, then stabbing them and causing severe injuries. Only afterward did an Allenby Br...
Jerusalem, Israel - Sept. 18, 2025 - On the evening of September 16,  The Michael Levin Base (The Base) held its annual gala in the Henry Crown Auditorium of the Jerusalem Theater. The night began with a standing welcome for U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, who delivered the keynote address, affirming that “the United States and Israel are more than allies - we are partners.” Minutes after he left the stage, sirens warned of a missile launched from Yemen. Hundreds of phones lit up. Guests remained calmly seated, following security instructions given before the program began. Huckabee briefly returned with his security team for the require...
Baltimore, MD - Sept. 18, 2025  -  Despite massive increases in taxpayer funding, many Maryland public schools are still significantly underperforming on state testing. David Williams, for 32 years, has worked as a taxpayer watchdog. First, at Citizens Against Government Waste. And now, he’s the president of the Taxpayers Protection Alliance. And in all his decades watching how your tax dollars are spent, he says one main theme has never changed. “A significant amount of my time has been looking at education spending,” stated Williams. “Politicians are stuck in a mindset where they think spending more money is going to produce better results. It doesn’t.” Maryland is spending more money on public schools. In 2023, according to the Maryland S...

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 18, 2025 -  Baltimore City ended the 2025 budget year with a $3.3 million deficit, which was smaller than expected due to larger income tax revenue than budget leaders predicted. Members of the Baltimore City Council got the kernel of good news during a budget hearing at City Hall. Laura Larsen, the city’s budget director, said the city brought in $42 million more in income tax revenue than it originally expected, resulting in the city ending up with $66 million more in revenue streams. “Income tax revenue is collected at the state level and then dispersed to the local level based off of an allocation formula,” she said. “It was sort of very out of the norm and very unexpected.” The boost in revenue paints a much sunnier picture t...
