Baltimore, MD - Sept. 11, 2025 - This past Sunday, the greater Ranchleigh community gathered for a beautiful and uplifting Hachnasas Sefer Torah.
The new Torah, commissioned by Dr. & Mrs. Moshe Silver in honor of their family and to mark Dr. Silver’s second siyum of Shas, was donated to Mercaz Torah U’Tefillah. A lively procession accompanied the Torah from the Silver home and down Baythorne Road to the shul, led by a chariot-style truck and children holding torches, with joyous music and dancing led by the renowned Dushinsky Zemiros Group of Eretz Yisroel.
The celebration culminated as the members of Kollel Zichron Yehoshua Heschel of Zidichov each holding Sifrei Torah from the shul, warmly welcomed the new Sefer Torah to its home.

Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Yechiel Leiter, on Thursday, responded sharply to a public letter signed by 80 American Orthodox rabbis calling for “moral clarity” from Israel regarding alleged starvation in the Gaza Strip.
In a letter obtained by The Jerusalem Post, Leiter, whose son, Maj. Moshe Leiter, was killed in action in Gaza, accused the signatories of promoting misinformation and echoing anti-Israel narratives.

The United Nations Security Council on Thursday condemned Tuesday’s airstrike on Qatar's capital, Doha, which targeted Hamas’s leaders, but notably refrained from mentioning Israel in the statement, Reuters reports.
The joint statement, agreed upon by all 15 members of the Security Council including the US, highlighted the importance of de-escalation in the region. It expressed solidarity with Qatar, emphasizing the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Annapolis, MD - Sept. 11, 2025 - The U.S. Naval Academy is currently on lockdown, according to a spokesperson for Annapolis police.
"We cannot confirm an active threat, but are searching the area out of an abundance of caution," said Kortlan Jackson, a spokesperson for the police department.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Naval Academy said: "Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy. The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available."

US President Donald Trump's team has begun tightening security around the President, following the murder of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
The report stated that a Pentagon ceremony to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was moved to a more secure location as a result.

Shots were fired at UMass Boston, prompting a large police response on campus Thursday afternoon, the Boston Police Department confirmed.
Shots were reported at 3:45 p.m. near 240 Morrissey Boulevard at the campus's location in Dorchester.
Sky 5 video showed students and campus employees evacuating a school building.
One officer was seen with a rifle from Sky5 as police officers swarmed the area.According to several UMass Boston alerts, the incident is a "public safety threat" and is in/near a residence hall in the school's East Building. The school is asking people to avoid the area as well as the Campus Center.
UMass Boston Police are responding to the scene, as well as Boston police officers.
It is unclear at this time whether anyone was injured in the incident.
