We have all been taught from a very young age that a Metzora, a person afflicted with a specific type of leprosy, is to be isolated from society. The flaw that brought this malady was that of speaking Lashon Hora — slander, a sin that creates enmity and division among people. The Metzora is thus punished with a 'measure for measure' penalty in being separated from society, until he recovers from his spiritual dysfunction.
According to some opinions, this was a very contagious disease, which would be in line with assuring that this sinner will be naturally quarantined since people will inevitably avoid him.
At first glance this disease would seem to be a form of discoloration on the skin but not necessarily one that is painful, simply a cosmetic issue.
Yet, the Sifr...

Reb Shayaleh lived from 1851-1925, and studied under some of the greatest teachers of the generation, including Rav Tzvi Hirsch Lisker, Rav Chaim Halberstam of Sanz, and Rav Mordechai of Nadvorna. Each year, thousands of yidden visit his tziyun (grave) in Kerestir (Hungary), which has become a central location for those seeking blessings and salvation.Although I have not (yet!) visited his tziyun , nor am I familiar with all of the stories about Reb Shayaleh, what I do know and what I have learned is that he was an adam gadol , not just in Torah, but in Gemilus Chasadim. Baltimore, MD - May 1, 2025 - Baltimore City’s Department of Public Works now has a heat safety policy in place, FOX45 News learned Thursday, following the death of an employee from a heat-related illness.
In August 2024, DPW solid waste worker Ronald Silver died on the job on a day when the heat index in Baltimore City was nearly 108 degrees. Silver experienced extreme heat exhaustion while collecting trash. Witnesses and coworkers also claim his repeated pleas for help went ignored, in part, due to an abusive work culture within DPW.
With several days already exceeding 80 degrees in 2025, DPW told FOX45 News it has been operating the plan to “safeguard health and safety.”

Baltimore, MD - May 1, 2025 - I am grateful to have travelled to Israel 3 times in my life thus far, and I can’t wait for the next trip. Some people may laugh at that number as they are fortunate to be frequent fliers there, while others may think that three trips alone is a big number as they have never been there. Each trip in itself was special and had its own flavor and is still so memorable. The first one was when I went to seminary, too many years ago to enumerate. I learned so much from my sem teachers and from just being in the Land. (shoutout to my friend who schlepped me to Michmash for Succos that back then was only made up of caravans and located in a somewhere “dangerous” region.” It was definitely a Chavaya and stunning.) ...
President Donald Trump tapped former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz for his administration's ambassador to the United Nations after New York Rep. Elise Stefanik withdrew her nomination so she could hold onto her House seat amid concerns over the GOP's slim majority in the lower chamber.
"I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations," Trump posted to Truth Social Thursday.
"From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role. In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor, while co...
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he understands that there are fewer than 24 Israeli hostages alive in Gaza.
"Out of 59 hostages, 24 are alive - but my understanding now is that that number is even smaller," Trump said.
He made the remarks at an event in honor of the US National Day of Prayer.
He also commented on the well-being of Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, saying, "We don't know how he's doing...We think we know. And hopefully positive."
"Two months ago, we were pretty sure it looked like he was getting out, but they've toughened up a little bit and it's a terrible thing," Trump added.
'This attack wouldn't have happened' without Iranian money

Firefighters have gained control over the fire in the Jerusalem hills after more than 24 hours, the Fire and Rescue Service says.
It says that firefighters will continue working over the coming hours, albeit at a lower intensity than they had been, to prevent new fires from cropping up.
With the blaze under control, the fire service says it has opened an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Earlier today, the Jewish National Fund, or Keren Kayemet L’Yisrael, said around 20,000 dunams (5,000 acres) of land had been destroyed.
That area includes around 13,000 dunams (3,000 acres) of forest.
Baltimore, MD - May 1, 2025 - Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott is touting that April 2025 had the fewest ever homicides recorded in the city, with five deaths.
According to a press release from Scott's office, homicides are down 31.6% and non-fatal shootings are down 27.1% compared to last year, and 2025 has seen Baltimore endure the fewest number of homicides in recorded history.
So far in 2025, there have been 39 homicides, as compared to 57 at this same point in 2024.
There have been 102 non-fatal shootings so far in the city in 2025, down from 140 by May 1 in 2024.
“This continued progress is a direct result of our comprehensive violence prevention plan, and all who are working in partnership to reduce violence in Baltimore,” said Mayor Scott, via a press release. &ld...
Trump administration National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and other staffers are out at the National Security Council, sources confirmed to Fox News.
Fox News confirmed Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, were ousted Thursday. Sources said additional staffers removed from the office will likely be announced, and President Donald Trump is expected to speak publicly about the matter.
Waltz, who previously served as a Florida congressman and as a decorated combat Green Beret, has come under fire from Democrats and critics since March, when the Atlantic magazine's Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg published a firsthand account of getting added to a Signal group chat with top national security leaders, including Waltz, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset...
Over 100 teams of firefighters continued to battle fires in the hills west of Jerusalem for a second day Thursday, but appeared to make gains in containing the blazes overnight, with firefighting planes from European allies expected to arrive later in the day.
As Israelis celebrated Independence Day, authorities reopened roads that had been closed a day earlier and let all evacuated residents return home, but warned that the fires remained uncontained and could flare back up later Thursday.
“At this stage we still have not gained control [of the fires],” the Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement Thursday morning.
The KKL-JNF estimated Thursday morning that some 20,000 dunams (4,900 acres) had been burned in the blazes, including 13,000 dunams (3,200) of woodland, with ...
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says there is a “superior objective” to bringing the hostages home in the war against Hamas.
“We have many goals, many goals in this war. We want to bring all our hostages home, we’ve brought back so far 147 alive, and 196 total,” says Netanyahu in his comments at the annual Bible Contest in Jerusalem to mark Independence Day.
“There are another up to 24 alive, 59 total, and we want to return the living and the dead. It’s a very important goal, but there is a superior goal. The supreme objective is victory over our enemies, and this we will achieve.”
Baltimore, MD - May 1, 2025:
Dear Readers,
This past week was Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. A day set aside to reflect on the six million kedoshim who were murdered during the Holocaust simply because they were Jews.
But Yom HaShoah is also a time to remember those who survived – the ones who walked out of the darkness carrying nothing but their emunah and the will to rebuild.
I recently wrote about my grandparents, Yehuda and Chana Friedman, a”h. They were extraordinary people who lived through the war, losing most of their family members in the process. But they held on to their faith, and somehow, they didn’t just survive, they thrived.
Like many survivors, they dreamed of getting out of Europe and starting over. They had only a few relatives in America....
