Washington, D.C. - March 9, 2025 - U.S. Secret Service personnel were reportedly involved in a shooting overnight following an armed encounter with a person of interest near the White House.
Authorities said the incident occurred after they were informed about a "suicidal individual" who was possibly traveling from Indiana to Washington D.C.

Columbia University's interim president said the school is working to address the "legitimate concerns" of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration after $400 million of federal government grants and contracts to the university were canceled over allegations of antisemitism on campus.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday said that his country will not be "bullied" into negotiations on its nuclear program.
During a meeting with senior Iranian officials, Khamenei said that the US aims to "impose their own expectations" on Iran, the country's state media reported.
The US is "bringing up new demands that certainly will not be accepted by Iran, like our defense capabilities, missile range and international influence," he added.
Khamenei did not name the US, but said that "some bullying governments" insist on negotiations as "a pathway to have new demands" instead of to resolve problems. "Iran will definitely not accept their expectations," he added.

Delegate Emily Shetty, a Democrat from Montgomery County, says the tax would lead to better health among Marylanders.
"This bill is a public health bill," said Shetty. "It will decrease consumption of sweetened beverages while investing in universal school meals for children, boosting our child care scholarship program and making a sizable dent in our structural deficit," she added.
The bill puts a two cent per ounce tax on all drinks with added sugars that do not have a health benefit.
Republicans questioned the impacts on businesses that they say will pass this tax on to the consumer.

The leader of Yemen's Houthi rebels, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, declared on Friday that his group would resume attacks against Israel if the blockade preventing aid from reaching Gaza is not lifted within four days, Reuters reported.
"We will give a deadline for four days. This deadline is for the (Gaza ceasefire) mediators for their efforts," al-Houthi stated.

Baltimore, MD - March 7, 2025 - Layoffs soared across the United States in February, but the pace was much slower at Maryland-based companies last month amid a mass of federal government job cuts and canceled contracts, along with staff reductions at retailers and other businesses.
Nationwide, job cuts jumped 245 percent last month, according to executive outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. There were 172,017 layoffs announced in February across all sectors, and Challenger said that 62,242 of these were federal agencies impacted by the Department of Government Efficiency's efforts to slash spending.

Baltimore, MD - March 7, 2025 - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers recently seized more than 10,000 cases of counterfeit vinyl flooring tiles shipped to Baltimore from China, authorities said in a news release.
Authorities said the shipment was seized on Feb. 25 after officers confirmed the United Diamond Core SPC vinyl flooring tiles were counterfeit.
