While Israel is reported to have up to several hundreds nuclear warheads, it does not acknowledge this officially and is not a signatory to the NPT. “Hammadi underscored the need for the international community and its institutions to uphold their commitments under resolutions of the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, the IAEA...

Columbia University's interim president said the school is working to address the "legitimate concerns" of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration after $400 million of federal government grants and contracts to the university were canceled over allegations of antisemitism on campus. In an announcement on Friday, the government cited what it described as antisemitic harassment on and near the school's New York City campus as the reason for pulling the funding. The university has repeatedly been at the forefront of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel student protest movement since the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and subsequent war in Gaza. "I want to assure the entire Columbia community that we are committed to working with the federal gove...
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday said that his country will not be "bullied" into negotiations on its nuclear program. During a meeting with senior Iranian officials, Khamenei said that the US aims to "impose their own expectations" on Iran, the country's state media reported. The US is "bringing up new demands that certainly will not be accepted by Iran, like our defense capabilities, missile range and international influence," he added. Khamenei did not name the US, but said that "some bullying governments" insist on negotiations as "a pathway to have new demands" instead of to resolve problems. "Iran will definitely not accept their expectations," he added. He also claimed that there is "no other way to stand against coercion and bullying." On Friday, ...
Thousands of Ukrainian troops who stormed into Russia's Kursk region last summer in a shock incursion are nearly surrounded by Russian forces there, in a major blow to Kyiv, which hoped to use its presence there as leverage over Moscow in any peace talks. Ukraine's situation in Kursk has deteriorated sharply in the last three days, open source maps show, after Russian forces retook territory as part of a gathering counteroffensive that has nearly cut the Ukrainian force in two and separated the main group from its principal supply lines. A Ukrainian soldier told the Telegraph that Ukraine is considering withdrawing from Kursk to avoid further losses. “The fear of encirclement is real,” they added. The Telegraph also reported that North Kor...

The report also said that the progress in negotiations between Hamas and the US forced Israel to announce that a delegation would leave for Qatar on Monday. Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi responded to the report saying that the news claiming that the negotiators were informed that Hamas agreed to a temporary ceasefire was untrue. He also said that Hamas is committed to the deal which has already been agreed upon, and to its second stage. Earlier on Saturday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed: "Israel has accepted the invitation of the mediators backed b...

Baltimore MD - March 8, 2025 - For two hours, members of the Ways and Means committee debated a proposal to raise $500 million for the state. Taxing drinks with added sugar. Delegate Emily Shetty, a Democrat from Montgomery County, says the tax would lead to better health among Marylanders. "This bill is a public health bill," said Shetty. "It will decrease consumption of sweetened beverages while investing in universal school meals for children, boosting our child care scholarship program and making a sizable dent in our structural deficit," she added. The bill puts a two cent per ounce tax on all drinks with added sugars that do not have a health benefit. Republicans questioned the impacts on businesses that they say will pass this tax on to the consumer. "If you added $1.36 to a p...

"We will give a deadline for four days. This deadline is for the (Gaza ceasefire) mediators for their efforts," al-Houthi stated. You'll be talking about that pretty soon, I guess,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office. “And hopefully we can have a peace deal,” he added. “You know, I'm not speaking out of strength or weakness. I'm just saying I'd rather see a peace deal than the other [option], but the other will solve the problem.” The comments came after Trump revealed to Fox News that he sent a letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, demanding that they negotiate. The letter said that Trump prefers to hold negotiatio...
