Baltimore, MD - Jan. 28, 2025 - In the court of public opinion, it was only a matter of hours before blame for the Key Bridge Collapse was laid at the feet of the ship's crew and owners.
But in federal court, a judge won't make that determination until June 2026, more than two full years after the collapse. It could then be another year before we find out how much money is owed and to whom.
We turned to a Maryland maritime attorney to help break down the complexities of this case.
There are countless questions for the court to answer. Are the owners of the Dali 100% responsible for the collapse? Do the 40-some parties trying to recover losses all have legitimate claims? If so - how much money are they owed? The list goes on.
There's millions and millions of dollars at st...
A federal judge temporarily blocked President Trump’s plan to freeze federal aid minutes before it was set to go into effect late Tuesday afternoon.
U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan said she was granting a “brief administrative stay” that preserves federal disbursements at least until Monday after a group of nonprofit and public health organizations filed a lawsuit.
AliKhan, an appointee of former President Biden who was randomly assigned to the case, issued the order at the conclusion of a hastily scheduled video conference Tuesday that began just an hour before the freeze.
Trump’s move was announced in a Monday night memo issued by Matthew Vaeth, acting director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). It d...

Annapolis, MD - Jan. 28, 2025 - Maryland Congressman Glenn Ivey released a statement on recent raids on places of worship by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“It is shocking that the Trump Administration is now targeting churches and other places of worship for ICE raids. This cruelty not only contradicts longstanding ICE policy, but the idea of armed law enforcement dragging out worshippers violates the right to attend religious services at sacred spaces protected by the First Amendment. The risk of racial profiling makes this unconscionable defiance of basic constitutional protections even worse. That’s why I support efforts to push back in Congress and in the courts,” said Congressman Glenn Ivey, (MD-04), via a press release.
Ivey's statement come...
Legislation that would have imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court in protest of its arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister was blocked in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
The chamber voted 54-45 in favor of the bill, meaning the measure, which had already passed the Republican-majority House of Representatives, could not get the 60 "yes" votes needed in the 100-member Senate to advance.
The vote was largely along party lines, with almost every Democrat and independent voting against. Senator John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote with Republicans to advance the measure. Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff did not vote.
The "Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act" would have imposed sanctions on any foreigner who investigate...
It was a typical winter Motzei Shabbos, and R' Shuly Lieber was learning at a Motzei Shabbos learning program with his son Ari. The learning had been going well as they reviewed sugyos in Perek Hakones in preparation for the upcoming test on Sunday. They had made it through half of the material when the speaker of the evening began, followed by the raffles. It seemed like the learning was winding down for the evening, and Ari, eager to head home, suggested they leave after the raffles.
As the raffles were being drawn, Ari turned to his father and asked, “What happened in Eretz Yisroel over Shabbos?” It was an unusual timing for that question, thereby catching R' Shuly a bit off guard. R' Shuly responded, “It seems there were negotiations going on between H...
Baltimore, MD - Jan. 28, 2025:Background: In a recent shocking decision, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for key Israeli leaders based on false charges of “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” in Israel’s post October 7th war against Hamas. Israel is not a member state of the ICC, and as a nation with an independent judicial system, according to the ICC’s own “principle of complementarity” Israel should be immune from ICC prosecution. The ICC decision therefore represents a politically motivated and antisemitic attack on the Jewish State. The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act is a bill in the U.S. Senate (having already passed the U.S. House) that declares that the ICC’s actions against Is...

The tech giant said in an X post it plans to update the name of Alaska’s Denali mountain to Mt. McKinley and the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Google said in the thread of posts that it uses the U.S. Geological Survey’s Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) database to determine the names.
“Also longstanding practice: When official names vary between countries, Maps users see their official local name. Everyone in the rest of the world sees...

Montgomery County, MD - Jan. 28, 2025 - On an afternoon in mid-January, a Montgomery County police drone tracked a shoplifting suspect as he made his way from a Wheaton CVS to the entrance of a nearby Metro station, where a patrol unit intercepted and arrested him.
Police flight records show that the drone, piloted by officers at a command center in Rockville, then returned to its station on a nearby rooftop to await the next 911 call.
The drone is one of four operated by the Montgomery County Department of Police. The year-old drone response program is the first of its kind in Maryland, with drones stationed in Gaithersburg, Silver Spring and Wheaton. The drones have responded to nearly 2,000 calls since the program’s launch, often reaching the scene before po...
Israel’s newly appointed ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, revealed in an exclusive interview with The Jerusalem Post that Israel is "closer than ever" to normalization with Saudi Arabia, a development he called a “game changer for the region and beyond.”
Leiter, who officially began his role on Friday, described normalization with Saudi Arabia as part of a broader strategic realignment in the Middle East following the degradation of Hamas,
Hezbollah, and other Iranian proxies. "We’re closer to Saudi Arabia because we’ve degraded Hamas. The fall of Assad and the weakening of Iran’s influence have brought us to a moment of opportunity," he said. The ambassador linked the potential agreement to Israel’s r...
CNN anchor Jim Acosta announced on Tuesday that he would exit the network, urging viewers not to "give into the lies" on his way out.
"You may have seen some reports about me and this show and after giving all of this some careful consideration, and weighing an alternative timeslot CNN offered me, I have decided to move on," Acosta told viewers.
"I am grateful to CNN for the nearly 18 years I spent here doing the news. People often ask me if the highlight of my career at CNN was at the White White House covering Donald Trump. Actually, no. That moment came here," Acosta added, showing a photo of him covering President Obama’s trip to Cuba in 2016 and questioning dictator Raul Castro.
"As a song of a Cuban refugee, I took home this lesson. It is never a good time to bow...
President Donald Trump said that the construction of an Iron Dome-like shield for the U.S. is a top priority for him on Monday, calling for "immediate" work to be done on the project before signing an executive order.
Trump made the remarks at a Republican dinner in Florida on Monday, while commending his recently-confirmed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. After landing at Joint Base Andrews that night, he confirmed that he signed an executive order regarding the Iron Dome on the plane.
"Pete Hegseth, who's going to be great, by the way… I think he's going to be fantastic," Trump said at the event. "I know him very well. I think he's going to be fantastic."
"He's what we need, to immediately begin the construction of a state-of-the-art Iron Do...
