Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to the defense of billionaire and US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk on Thursday after the latter was accused of making a Nazi salute. "Elon Musk is being falsely smeared," Netanyahu declared in a post on X. He added: "Elon is a great friend of Israel. He visited Israel after the October 7 massacre in which Hamas terrorists committed the worst atrocity against the Jewish people since the Holocaust. He has since repeatedly and forcefully supported Israel’s right to defend itself against genocidal terrorists and regimes who seek to annihilate the one and only Jewish state. "I thank him for this." The X, Tesla, and Space-X CEO came under fire earlier in the week when during an address after President Donald Trump's ina...
"From Hamas's perspective, they are making a major comeback as a dominant force in Gaza," Dr. Michael Milshtein, a senior researcher at the Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University, told 103FM on Thursday regarding the developments in the Gaza Strip in the context of the hostage deal and the ceasefire. "Their situation is not bad. It's terrible for us to say this because we wanted to see a battered, beaten, and maybe even barely existing organization. Yesterday, the education system in Gaza announced that schools will soon reopen, even though 85% of schools no longer exist. 6,000 Hamas police officers have been deployed throughout the strip, making it clear to everyone who is in charge and signaling that there's no point in talking about the 'post-war era,...
Israel is on high alert for the publication of Hamas's two lists on Friday, it was announced on Thursday. One list is expected to include the names of three kidnapped female soldiers as well as the name of Arbel Yehud from Nir Oz, who, according to intelligence estimates, is being held by a Salafi group linked to Islamic Jihad in Khan Yunis. Four female hostages are set to be released on Saturday as part of the hostage-ceasefire deal. Hamas is also supposed to pass on a list of the status of the remaining 26 hostages held in Gaza who are on the release list for the first phase. For the first time, Israel will, therefore, receive official information about the fate of the Bibas family: Parents Shiri and Yarden and children Ariel and Kfir.
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman told President Donald Trump he’s willing to expand investments and trade with the US in the coming four years by $600 billion, according to the kingdom’s state-run news agency SPA. The crown prince, known as MBS, spoke to the American president in a congratulatory phone call on Wednesday, SPA said. During the call, Prince Mohammed said the kingdom was eager to seize partnership and investment opportunities created by the new administration’s anticipated reforms, which could achieve “unprecedented economic prosperity.” SPA did not provide further details or say what reforms the crown prince was talking about. The commitment is large, even by the standards of oil-rich Saudi Arabia. It amounts to aro...
Members of the family who own OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma agreed to pay up to $7.4 billion in a new settlement to lawsuits over the toll of the powerful prescription painkiller, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Thursday. The deal, agreed to by Purdue Pharma, the Sackler family members who own the company and lawyers representing state and local governments and thousands of victims of the opioid crisis, represents an increase of more than $1 billion over a previous settlement deal that was rejected last year by the U.S. Supreme Court. It’s among the largest settlements reached over the past several years in a series of lawsuits by local, state, Native American tribal governments and others seeking to hold companies responsible for a deadly epidemic. Aside from the...

Baltimore, MD - Jan. 23, 2025 - Baltimore's Board of Estimates has approved a significant increase in water and sewage rates, amounting to a 30% hike over the next 18 months, despite widespread public opposition. The decision follows two hours of complaints from residents who argue they cannot afford the increase. "Baltimore City residents cannot afford even a $12 rate hike," one resident said during the hearing. Another added, "Some residents are being billed more than 10% of their income." The rate hike is intended to fund critical infrastructure projects and comply with a federal consent decree that the city's Department of Public Works (DPW) has been under for over a decade. Public works officials insist the increase is essential, citing years of neglect. "We are really ta...
American defense contractors will soon begin operating a checkpoint between the northern and southern Gaza Strip, Axios reported on Thursday citing two Israeli officials and a source with direct knowledge of the matter. According to the report, armed guards from UG Solutions, a US private security company, will begin inspecting vehicles that wish to move from southern Gaza to the north per the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. The agreement states that vehicular traffic will only be allowed to cross the Netzarim Corridor, which cuts the Gaza Strip in half, using Salah al-Din Road. All vehicles will be subject to inspection by a multinational consortium. Those operating the checkpoint will be Americans who previously served in the US Special Forces as well as others of v...
Annapolis, MD - Jan. 23, 2025 - Some Maryland lawmakers are seeking to make it easier for the state to tax the income of those living in Maryland on a limited basis. A bill proposed by progressive lawmakers in both the Maryland House and Senate seeks to modify the residency classification of individuals who spend more than 90 days in Maryland annually. Current state law requires a person to reside in Maryland for at least six months to be considered a resident for income tax purposes. Sen. James Rosapepe, D-Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties, told Spotlight on Maryland on Wednesday he believes now is the time to close what he feels are tax loopholes. “Basically, we got people that have two or three homes in different states, and some of that is to try to avo...

Trump made the pledge to a crowd during his Victory Rally at Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena, which has a 20,000-seat capacity, telling supporters it is the beginning of an effort to increase government transparency. "As the first step toward restoring transparency and accountability to government, we will also reverse the over-classification of government documents," Trump said. "And in the coming days, we are going to make public remaining records relating to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.," he con...

Baltimore, MD - Jan. 22, 2025 - Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee members voted Tuesday night to recommend that Del. Dalya Attar (D) fill a vacancy in the state Senate, where she would become the first Orthodox Jewish woman to serve if approved by the governor. Attar prevailed over a fellow delegate, Malcolm P. Ruff (D), and six other Democrats who interviewed over Zoom for the Senate appointment. Five of the eight central committee members from District 41 voted to forward Attar’s name to Gov. Wes Moore (D), while three voted for Ruff. “That was fun,” said former state Del. Washigton, D.C - Jan. 22, 2025  - Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown called birthright citizenship -- the notion that anyone born on U.S. soil is a U.S. citizen -- "a reflection of our country’s ideals, a belief that every baby born on U.S. soil is a member of our great nation and deserves to play a part in its future." The lawsuit filed in Massachusetts by 18 states, the District of Columbia and the city of San Francisco, says the 14th Amendment and repeat Supreme Court decisions have made it clear that citizenship is "unambiguously and expressly" endowed on anyone born here. WASHINGTON — A day after President Donald Trump signed a slew of immigration-related executive orders, immigration researchers said during a Tuesday briefing...
