The US-supplied Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, which has been stationed in Israel since October, successfully intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Houthi rebels in Yemen early Friday morning. This marked the system's first operational deployment in Israel. Footage shared on social media shows the THAAD system launching an interceptor during the Houthi attack. “18 years I’ve been waiting for this,” an American soldier can be heard saying in the video. The missile fired by the Houthis triggered sirens at around 3:30 a.m. in many cities and towns across central Israel, the Shfela (Lowlands) and Judea. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit stated that one missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted before crossing into Israeli...

Baltimore, MD - Dec. 27, 2024  - Baltimore City is in “urgent need” of a new courthouse, according to the City Clerk, after legionella bacteria was found this month. “This is something that has been clear for decades,” Clerk Xavier Conway said, citing the water main breaks, the bacteria being found and other issues over recent years. The Cummings and Mitchell courthouses reopened at 8 a.m. after both courthouses closed on Dec. 20 due to the bacteria. Clerk Xavier Conaway said last week, “There’s no cause for concern to the public.” In November, elevated levels of legionella bacteria were found at State Center office buildings. Israeli airline El Al announced on Thursday evening that it is suspending operations on the Tel Aviv-Moscow route for one week due to what has been described as "developments in the Russian airspace." The airline made this decision following the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane that was en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia. Another reason for the suspension of flights is the UAV attacks by the Ukrainian military on various airports across Russia, including in the capital Moscow. The Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed on Wednesday morning near Aktau, Kazakhstan. According to reports, 67 passengers and five crew members were aboard the plane at the time of the crash. Approximately 30 of them survived the crash and were hospitalized in Kazakhstan. According to Western est...
This weeks Parsha gives us a deep insight into the human condition.  As the famine intensified throughout the land, Yaakov sent his sons down to Mitzrayim to purchase grain.  The brothers came to Mitzrayim and eventually found themselves in front of Yoseph, their brother whom they had sold into slavery years earlier.  The Pasuk tell us that “Yoseph recognized his brothers but they did not recognize him” (42:8).  Rashi is apparently troubled by the notion that the brothers would not have recognized Yoseph.  Even with so many years having gone by, this was their brother who had been an integral part of their lives.  They had grown up together and were intensely jealous of him on account of the K’tones Passim. He was the one whose dreams alienat...

Baltimore, MD - Dec. 27, 2024  - With the future of the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project up in the air, the proposed 70-mile transmission line, which could span Baltimore, Carroll and Frederick Counties, has sparked debate about how to address the state's growing energy needs. Currently, the State of Maryland is a net-importer of electricity, which means the state uses more power than it generates. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, "Maryland consumes about five times more energy than it produces." On top of that, PJM, the regional transmission organization said in a statement, "electricity demand is expected to increase by nearly 40% by the year 2039.
